Late Night

Well, it's 1am on a weekday night and I'm still up.  What am I doing??  Working on some clothespin dolls.  With the Lunar New Year coming up (Febuary 3rd - Year of the Rabbit), I thought it would be nice to make some dolls dressed in traditional Chinese dresses (qipao).

I finished the first Lunar New Years doll last night, and started working on the 2nd tonight.  I got a late start, which is why I'm still up.  Now, why I choose to blog about this now is a whole nother issue.

I feel I may be rambling a bit :)  So, here's the finished doll...pretty adorable if I do say so myself.  The 2nd doll will have a different hairstyle, different colored dress, and different accessories.

I'm Now Selling On Etsy

I've been a huge fan of Etsy for some time now. It's a great place to find unique handmade items. And while I've considered trying to sell my work on Etsy in the past, I never could muster up the courage to do so. Well, tonight I finally listed my very first Etsy item. It's for a custom made clothespin doll.

I know my timing may not be the best (missing Christmas by a few days). But better late than never, right? Plus, there's Valentine's day just around the corner and don't forget the much anticipated Lunar New Year! ;)

While there's only 1 item listed as of now, there will be more to come. Wish me luck!

A Little Crafty, A Little Crazy...

So, I'm finally taking the plunge...I'm starting a blog about my crafting adventures as a mother.

Here's my background. I've always enjoyed art. As a child I remember how proud I was of the clay scultpures I made for my parents in elementary school. I took a ceramic class in high school and fell in love. In college I spent countless hours in the studio throwing, sculpting, glazing. While I got a degree in psychology, my passion was art. Any elective courses that could be fulfilled by an art class, was. I took art history, I, II, and III and enjoyed them. After college I began designing websites and doing graphic design in my free time. I worked at custom frame shops...a job I loved because I not only saw new art pieces everyday, but as a framer I chopped, built, and assembled the final product. Today, I'm just a mother of two that takes almost every chance I get to do something crafty.

So why call my blog "Crafty With A Side Of Crazy"? Because it's a pretty fair description of me. When I told my husband what I was going to name my blog, he just laughed and said, "Yeah". I'm one of those people that sees something in a store, on a website, or in a magazine and says, "I could make that". And then I do. Now, it may not look as nice as the original source of inspiration, but it's made by me. So, I'd consider myself crafty. Now, for the crazy. I get a little obsessed with my art/craft projects. When I start something, I want to finish it...now! I stay up late, knowing I have to get up early with the kids the next morning. I spend hours working on projects that most people would just go buy at the store. That's why I consider myself crafty with a side of crazy.
